What does Hashem mean?

(primer/cypher : G-d = HaShem)
 

Hashem is a hebrew word that stands for "The Name". Since the name of G-d must never be uttered, jews and noahides use this term to have a reference to G-d.

And Hashem said. "This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come, I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between Hashem and all living creatures of every kind on the earth. So Hashem said to Noah, "This is the sign of the covenant I have established between me and all life on the earth." (Genesis 9: 12-17)

 

Hashem, in His infinite mercy, established a covenant with all the dwellers of the earth after the flood. This covenant is declared in the Torah. The Laws given to Adam and Noah are what we call the Noachide Laws and they are:

 

 

The Seven Noachide Laws

1. You will not commit murder

 

2. You will not commit robbery of any kind (Rape, Kidnapping, Robbery, etc)

 

3. You will not commit incest or adultery or have illicit sexual encounters

 

4. You will not eat the flesh of an animal while the animal is still alive. This teaches usto be sensitive to cruelty to animals. (This was commanded to Noah for the first time along with the permission of eating meat. The negative laws were enforced at the Garden of Eden.) ....{= HALAL/"KOSHER"/HEYLAL}

 

5. You will not have idols and worship them

 

6. You will not commit blasphemy against Hashem

 

7. Mankind is commanded to establish courts of justice and a just social order to enforce the first six laws and enact any other useful laws or customs.

 

 

As you can see from the laws, they are not very strict. I consider them more a set or moral standards for humans than actually strict laws. It is in deed a universal moral code. That is why I feel very free about being a Noahide. Furthermore I am allowed to learn as much as I can without feeling persecuted by an authority, a priest or a pastor. As you can perhaps notice, the idea of Satan in the Hebrew Bible is different than the Christian idea. Satan is just an agent of G-d, a
 (suffering) servant and he is not that all powerful like we think in a Christian way. This also has set me free from fear.

 

 

We Noahides are very close to the nation of Israel because we recognize the importance of the covenant G-d made with them. We are very close to the Orthodox Rabbis who teach us the law as it applies to the Gentile people.

 

 

Noahidism is entirely different than Messianic Judaism. Messianic Judaism is really Christianity disguised as Judaism. Messianic Jews accept the New Testament as a reveled word of G-d, we don't and we have intellectual reasons for this. Messianic Jews accept Jesus as a Messiah and God, we don't, we believe the Messiah is to come to bring an age of redemption to the world. Messianic Jews believe in the Trinity (A catholic dogma, not biblical) we believe in the one and only G-d of gods and we love him with all our heart. We believe G-d to be the source of all good, of love. Our concept of God is not anthropomorphic, it is entirely spiritual without gender or human characteristics. The Noahide movement is accepted by the Jewish Rabbinical authority as the righteous path to the Gentile. It is really amazing. There are noahides all throughout the world and we are very close thanks to the Internet. In the noahides group in yahoo we discuss many things that pertain to us and we learn from each other. If you want, you can join the group and start sharing. The majority of the people that are Noahides now were christians before and acknowledged that there was more about the truth of G-d than it is explained in the Christian Bible. I feel very happy being a Noahide and learning as much as I can about it.

Who is the Son of G-d? 

 

 

You were created so that you could recognize your Creator, love Him, and serve Him here on earth. But do you know Who G-d really is? The answer to this question surprises many people.

 

It is an easy mistake to think that one is worshipping the one, true G-d, while actually serving a false one. To help prevent this mistake, G-d described Himself in the Bible, warning us to remember how He appeared when He gave the Ten Commandments:

 

And the Eternal spoke to you from the middle of the fire; you heard the sound of words, but you saw no form, only a voice....

And guard your souls carefully, for you did not see any form on the day the Eternal spoke to you in Horev from the middle of the fire, lest you become corrupt and make for yourselves an idol, an image of any physical shape, the form of a man or woman (Deuteronomy 4:12, 15-16)

 

In other words, G-d has no physical shape. He is infinite and unlimited, and never appears in the form of any human.

 

Nor does G-d have any "partners." He alone is the only One Who brings us eternal salvation, as He says in the Bible:

 

Am I not the Eternal? And there is no other god besides Me -- a just G-d and Savior; there is none else. Turn to Me and be saved, all the ends of the earth, for I am G-d and there is none else (Isaiah 45:21-22)

 

Anyone who makes the mistake of worshipping a man for spiritual salvation will be betrayed (Psalms 146:3). Eternal life comes directly from G-d, Who is One and infinite, and not through any mediator.

 

G-d's Firstborn Son

 

So how has G-d brought His message of truth to the world? According to the Bible, G-d declares that He does have a special son whose mission is to bring His blessings and His salvation to the entire world.

 

Who is this son? Many religious leaders have offered their opinions on the identity of His son, but really we should find out G-d's "opinion" on this matter.

 

In the book of Exodus, G-d openly proclaims His son to the world: "Thus says the L-rd: My firstborn son is Israel" (Exodus 4:22).

 

"Israel" is the Jewish people -- all of them. The Jews were chosen by G-d to be His special "son," to be, in the words of the Bible, "a kingdom of priests and a holy nation" for the whole world (Exodus 19:6)

 

All people are G-d's children, of course, but the Jews are like a "firstborn son" who brings G-d's Word to his younger brothers. Every person who learns from the Jews, and helps them fulfill their special role, becomes a part of G-d's kingdom.

 

Unfortunately, many times people have not listened to the Jews. For many centuries, the Christian church killed hundreds of thousands of innocent Jews -- men, women, and children to prevent their holy message from reaching the rest of the world. Today, church leaders still try to silence the Jewish message by sending missionaries to convert Jews to Christianity!

 

The Bible tells us that the Jews would suffer greatly, not just for their own sins, but also for the sake of bringing G-d's Word to a rebellious world:

 

"Comfort, comfort my people," says your G-d. "Persuade Jerusalem and call to her, for her time is full, for her sins have been repaid; for she has received from the hand of the L-rd double for all her sins" (Isaiah 40:1-2)

 

Salvation Through the Law

 

The Jewish people have been taught the secret to eternal life and blessings for all people, and now they finally have the freedom to reveal G-d's message.

 

According to that message, the key that unlocks the door to a personal relationship with G-d is His Law -- one part for the Jews, the other part for the rest of the world.

 

At Mount Sinai, G-d gave the Ten Commandments (and hundreds of others) to the Jewish people. These laws apply only to the Jews in their special role as the world's spiritual leaders.

 

But for everyone else, G-d gave the Seven Commandments (and dozens of other laws). These commandments were given to Noah, after he left the ark that saved his family from the great flood, as an eternal covenant with all the peoples of the earth (Genesis 8:20 - 9:17). Since Mount Sinai, the Jews have carried the message of these seven laws to all the peoples.

 

A non-Jew who follows these commandments is called a Child of Noah, and he receives both eternal life and G-d's blessings in his earthly life. By doing good works exactly as G-d commands, he earns a close relationship with his Creator.

 

A Child of Noah celebrates certain "Old Testament" holidays, not Christian holidays. He prays to G-d in the proper way, according to G-d's instructions. He also helps the poor, and he guides his fellow humans -- including non-religious Jews -- back to G-d's Law. A Child of Noah learns how to redeem every part of his life from the emptiness of modern existence, becoming a "soldier" in G-d's spiritual army.

 

The Messiah's Message to the World

 

By asking the Jews for spiritual guidance and turning back to "Old Testament" Law, a Child of Noah also accomplishes the most important task of all: He helps bring the Messiah to redeem the entire world.

 

The Messiah is a Jewish king who will gather all the Jewish people to Israel, destroy all evil, rebuild the Holy Temple in Jerusalem, and bring true freedom to the world by returning everyone to the Law. He will institute G-d's eternal kingdom here on earth.

 

The Messiah will teach the Word of G-d to all nations.

 

O L-rd, my strength and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of distress, gentiles will come to You from the ends of the earth and say, 'We have inherited only lies from our fathers, vanity and things which are not useful. Can a man make gods for himself, and they are not gods?'

 

Therefore, behold, I will cause them to know, this time I will let them know My hand and My strength, and they will know that My Name is Hashem (Jeremiah 16:19-21)

 

An Urgent Call to Action
 

In the book of Genesis, G-d told Abraham that his descendants, the Jewish people, would bless the world with the light of G-d's Word. Only by turning to the Jews can anyone join G-d's [HASHEMS] holy kingdom:

 

And I will bless those who bless you, but I will curse those who curse you; and through you all the families of the earth will be blessed (Genesis 12:3)

 

G-d promised Abraham that this covenant of priesthood would apply to all the Jews, forever:

 

And I establish my covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you, throughout their generations, for an eternal covenant (Genesis 17:7)

 

Regardless of your race, religious background, or nationality, G-d is calling on you to help the Jewish people bring the age of redemption to the planet. You don't have to be Jewish to help; in fact, the Children of Noah can serve G-d in special ways that Jews cannot, since G-d's Law is stricter for Jews.

The Torah describes a Jewish court as "Elohim" (Exodus 21:6, 22:7, 22:8), which is also G-d's name. The reason for this is because G-d is with the court, and the verdict which is issued by the judges has G-d's seal of approval. However, this only applies when at least one of the judges was ordained by another rabbi with a direct chain of ordination dating back to Moses. For Moses bequeathed from his holiness unto Joshua and the other seventy elders (see Numbers 11:25 and Deuteronomy 34:9) who in turn bequeathed this holiness to their successors etc.

Do not curse judges [69] nor The Judge (i.e. blasphemy) [70], nor may we curse our leaders [71]. Note that 69 & 70 are counted as two separate mitzvot (prohibitions) although they share the very same words in the verse - ELOHIM LO T'KALEIL. Here, Elokim is taken as referring to G-d, as well as Elohim, meaning judges.

Indeed, the Hebrew word "Elohim" is not only one of the appellations of G-d but also a word for human judges. And the verse in the Ten Commandments which warns us against making "gods of silver and gods of gold" (Shemot 20:7) is also interpreted to mean that we shouldn't appoint judges because of their wealth or influence (Sanhedrin 7b).

The above concepts should affect the manner in which we approach our fellow Jews. Criticizing or speaking unfavorably about them is no less than making such statements against G-d Himself. the prophet warns that a person who strikes a Jew is like one who strikes G-d in the eye, so to speak. Since "a king cannot exist without a people," the appreciation of G-d as king of the world is dependent on His people, the Jews, and an attack against them, heaven forbid, is an attack against Him.

The question of capital punishment under the Noahide code was discussed in the Talmud. See B. Talmud, Sanhedrin 57a-b. It was decided that all seven Noahide laws are capital crimes. (Maimonides, Mishneh Torah, Judges, the Laws of Kings 9:14) Under Noahide law one may be executed based on the testimony of one witness or a confession, and without a prior warning. (Maimonides, ibid, 9:14; Chinuch ch. 26) According to one opinion, a criminal might be executed under Noahide law based upon circumstantial evidence (Rabbi Z.H. Chayoth, Ma'aritz Chayot, Vol. 1 ch. 49). E-lohim (el-hiym). "Lawmaker", both in the sense of nature and in that of moral and religious law. In Exodus,(The Lie, they only use the Word written to decieve the masses who are asleep)  the legislators of the human court are refered to as elohim. The plural is perhaps a statement of majesty, or perhaps the idea that G-d is the Author of all laws. Not that the two are all that different. The majestic plural comes from the idea that the king or queen spoke for all of England. Jewish tradition notes that this name is used in naaratives where G-d's actions can more readily be seen as pure justice. * El. Almighty. Same root as E-lohim. * Y-H-V-H. Literally "the self existent" implying "eternal". Sometimes this is rendered as "I am", but this doesn't really express the significance behind what is implied with this word. This word is harder to translate because the vowels have been lost. The usual "Ye-hovah" is actually the vowelization of "A-donai" (my L-rd[s]), adapted for the consonants. The leading yud can't take the almost-schwa short /a/ sound, so it is written with a schwa instead. The word can also be taken to mean "the Causer of existance". Also, midrashically, the tetragrammaton is taken as a contraction of "hayah, hoveh, yihyeh -- was, is, will be". {or, for further consultation, I suggest Rev.17:8!!!)

This quality of Rabbi Shneur Zalman's is alluded to in his name, Shneur, which can be broke up into two Hebrew words, "shnei" and "ohr," meaning "two lights." He illuminated the world with his greatness in the two lights of the Torah. The perfection of the Shabbat is immutable and eternal; only our consciousness is subject to the variance and distortion imposed upon it by the material shell in which it is encased. In doing so the Alter Rebbe answers a well-known question. How can we possibly say that the higher worlds, which are illuminated with such a revelation of G-dliness, exist for the purpose of this world, where G-dliness is so concealed? One does not create a significant thing to serve something insignificant. The Alter Rebbe therefore explains that through the transformation of "darkness into light"— a form of divine service which can be achieved only in this world — the world becomes so holy that it is illuminated with a degree of G-dliness far superior to that which is manifest in the higher worlds.
